I wonder...
What qualities/skills/characteristics are most important to you for the Senior Pastor at a church?
This wonder is brought to you by the recent resignation of the Senior Pastor at my own church
and the forthcoming search for a new Pastor.
Thoughts, please!?
Godly man. Family man. Natural smile. Called by God to be a pastor. Friendly. Knowledgeable (aka educated). Just to name a few :)

Strong Biblical knowledge and principals, deovotion to and experience with families, integrity, and a love for people.
ReplyDeleteDevotion to God, family, and church (in that order.) Ability to speak his mind even when it might go against the thoughts of the church "power brokers." Compassion and empathy. I really think I could go on and on but I feel like I should stop there. Are you on the search committee? We've been wondering if he would accept the job. I am sad for you guys- he is an amazing pastor. I feel secretive by not naming him. HA HA!! :) Praying for you all!
ReplyDeleteWoot found it! I've heard a lot of opinions on this since the pastor changes rather frequently at my mom's Church. I think some people lean more towards a good "pastor" as in someone who can really minister and connect with people. On the flip side, some look for a good "preacher" who can deliver an insightful message. I think you're quite blessed if you can get a pastor that has both qualities.
ReplyDeleteI think that some people expect too much of their pastors or don't expect the right things. For smaller Churches, it's easy to want the pastor to carry the brunt of the load. I believe the pastor is the head of the Church and like our own brains should help direct the overall workings of the body however the body should be doing the brunt of the work using its respective gifts.
